Rebecca Ferwerda
Rebecca joined our boarding staff here at Halsey East in the summer of 2010. She brought with her five years of canine boarding and kennel experience. She moved to Oregon in July 2004 from Vancouver, BC (Canada) with her daughter and remarried. She has a 2 year technical diploma in Fish, Wildlife, and Recreation Management from the British Columbia Institute of technology.
Her spare time is spent with her family and her three canine companions: a six year old Yellow Lab, a five year old Miniature Pincher, and a one and a half year old Black Lab. She competes in AKC Obedience and Rally with both her labs. Rebecca is very passionate about training and behavior and enjoys constantly learning, as there is always something new to learn from a canine.
Jen Yates
Jen Yates joined the HEAC staff in August, 2011. From the time she was a child to current she has never lived without a dog. Dogs were always a part of the family. After being a stay-at-home mom for several years, her love of animals drove her to volunteer at the Multnomah County Animal Shelter. The shelter provided her with a wealth of knowledge and she assisted with daily animal care, adoptions, training and even foster care for both dogs and cats. Her breed of choice is Chihuahuas and is even known by some of the County Animal Shelter staff as being the resident Chihuahua expert. She has lived in Oregon her whole life and currently lives in Gresham with her husband, three kids, two cats, a mixed pack of big and little dogs and occasionally a foster dog or two. Her interests include dog behavior, Disney/Micky Mouse and hockey. Her spare time is used to run her small non-profit Chihuahua Rescue Tiny But Mighty.
Colin Foley
Colin is an animal lover and has been an animal welfare advocate for many years. He is a behaviorist, caretaker and independent animal sitter, born in Kansas and raised in Colorado. Colin began his mission in Colorado where he became a vegetarian and volunteered for Rocky Mountain Animal Defense. He has since moved to Portland from Asheville, NC where he worked for Asheville Humane Society as an Adoption Counselor and Euthanasia Technician. His background includes working for Community Animal Project in Norfolk, VA as a cruelty case field investigator, under Animal Control, investigating cases throughout southern Virginia and northern North Carolina. Colin looks forward to meeting you and learning about your fantastic companion. Paws up!
