One of the single most important things when trying to manage any kind of behavioral issue is simply The Walk. Not only does the seemingly benign process of a walk through the neighborhood solidify the bond between you and your dog, but when executed properly will establish you as the leader of your pack andhelp burn off some of the energy that may be at the root of the behavioral issue.
No matter which way you choose to train proper walking behavior: lure training, clicker training, slip-lead, or gentle leader; just make sure you are confident and consistent in your routine.
When it comes down to it, just getting your dog out and about into the outside world to experience the smells, sounds, and social opportunities it has to offer, is the most emotionally and physically rewarding activity you can do for your dog and yourself.
If you do nothing else with your pooch, just walk him at least once a day, you will be rewarded!
